Mar del Plata is a city in eastern Argentina, in Buenos Aires Province on the Atlantic Ocean at Cape Corrientes. The leading seaside resort in Argentina, it is noted for beaches, colorful parks, and one of the largest casinos in the world. In midsummer (January and February), large numbers of people from Buenos Aires come to Mar del Plata seeking cooler temperatures and the blue ocean waters in contrast to the muddy waters of the Río de la Plata estuary. Mar del Plata is a major commercial and sport-fishing center and has important seafood-canning and candy industries. It is the site of San Pedro Cathedral, the National University of Mar del Plata (1961), Colón Theater, botanical gardens, and a municipal museum. A naval base is also located here. Mar del Plata is a modern city, founded in 1874. Mar del Platas population is approximately 510,000.
What are other people saying? Here are a few quotes from cyclists that attended our recent trip to Argentina:
This trip to Argentina was like the perfect storm for me. I can't imagine a more enjoyable and powerful set of circumstances: warm summer weather; the restaurants, cafés, shops and culture of a teeming major city; beautiful beaches two blocks from the hotel; friendly and energetic cyclists to ride, eat and drink with; and all the coaching you want from a world-class cycling coach. Not to mention an extremely powerful dollar against the local currency. I surely will go with Mike on his next trip to Argentina. But more than that, I want to go back there now. It was truly awesome.
--Bob Cary, (President Skylands Cycling Club, N.J.)
The Argentina trip was fantastic and rates among my top five vacation experiences. Argentina is a beautiful country... from the architectural splendor of Buenos Aires to the vast expanses of the pampas to the beautiful coastline of Mar del Plata. This trip offered an opportunity to not only train hard but also to play hard and meet lots of interesting people within and outside the cycle community. Our daily training rides gave us a chance to see some of the lush countryside surrounding Mar del Plata. There were so many great moments during this trip, which I will always remember with great joy. I look forward to a chance to return to Argentina next year and continue my exploration of this phenomenal country.

Argentina is incredible; you have rolled up in one country all the best of Europe without the overly inflated prices, the arrogance of the people towards Americans, narrow dangerous roads, security and crime problems. Combine this with the fact; Argentina has GREAT food and wine, plus no mosquitoes or houseflies. Of the 11 cycling trips I have taken in the past this was without a doubt the best!
